Designer Matt

We believe that there’s no substitute for experience when it comes to designing garden rooms, and that’s exactly what Matt has. He brings unrivalled knowledge and expertise to the team, gained from working in architectural design for over thirty years, and has specifically worked in the glazed extension industry for the last five.

Matt grew up in the West Midlands and started his career off as a trainee landscape architect. After the first year, he realised that he was drawn to designing buildings so he made the move across to the architectural department in the same company.

Using his expertise, Matt has been working as an architectural designer on both listed building projects and high—profile contemporary designs. It was not a conscious decision to start designing beautiful glazed garden rooms and orangery extensions, it just happened naturally through his passion for working collaboratively with homeowners to help them transform their properties.

‘I really enjoy interacting with clients; that’s a big factor for me,’ Matt explains. ‘I like to engage with people and understand what they are trying to achieve in their homes. I enjoy the whole process really, just listening to their brief and interpreting their needs into a design that they really love.’

Matt is a family man and especially likes to spend his free time with his daughter. He has a soft spot for classic cars and owns a modest collection at home, which he has added to over the years. He’s also a big fan of 20th century contemporary design, and has filled his home with original artwork and furniture pieces from the 1950’s – 1970’s. Matt likes to keep fit so if he ever has any extra time, he enjoys going to the gym.

If Matt were to have his own garden room, it would be an open plan living and dining room which the family could use as a social space. It would need to have a minimal, contemporary aesthetic to blend in with the rest of his home, so he would choose to paint it in a darker colour like a grey.
