Detached house in Surrey

The owners of this 1970s property needed to add space to the ground floor of their house. Their existing kitchen was dark, and not big enough to enjoy as a family, so they sought a room that would enhance the sense of light and space, and bring the family together. Westbury proposed an orangery to the rear of the kitchen diner which would allow natural light to flood straight through the long open plan area and also give the family a place to sit and enjoy the views of their vast garden.

Also to the rear of this property was a warm and snug living room. To balance the composition of the orangery, Westbury advised adding French doors and a boarded roof lantern to that room. The additional lantern adds further character to the exterior architecture, and gives an extra dimension of space internally whilst keeping the cosy feature fireplace the main focus.

The owners of this fantastic home have since written a blog about their project which you can find here.
