Open plan living area with panoramic views across the garden

Cosy Orangery with a Fireplace

Open Gallery

This orangery provides a cosy sitting area adjoining the open plan kitchen and dining room, and offers panoramic views across the garden.

The top sheet of the roof glass used in the lantern was stepped to stop any capillary action and to ensure the longer life of the double-glazed units. The roof glass was also laid on a special glazing gasket, fixed down and sealed with aluminium capping incorporating neoprene offset rubber gaskets and stainless-steel screws to ensure that the roof is maintenance free.

Many clients choose to incorporate a fireplace or wood burning stove into their design, as well as an underfloor heating system for day-to-day use. The fireplace is not for necessity but to create ambience during the colder months. A fireplace gives a room gravitas, making the new structure feel established and integral to the existing home. Fireplaces need to be considered at the very beginning of any garden rooms project as the building will be designed to meet regulations such as arranging safe access for the chimney flue.
