Incorporating smart lighting into your home & garden

In our latest guest blog post, Lighting Direct give their expert advice on how smart lighting can transform the way you use lighting in your home and garden.

Smart lighting is one of the must-have gadgets for our homes and gardens this year – according to a recent survey by lighting supplier, Lighting Direct, more than a quarter of homeowners (28%) are already using smart lighting, and of those who are not, half are considering investing in it in the near future.

Smart lighting is typically controlled via a smartphone or through voice commands when connected with a smart speaker such as Amazon Alexa. With millions of colour options and presets to play around with, the technology has the potential to completely transform the way in which you use lighting around your home, forever.

Whilst the living room (65%) and bedroom (38%) are the most popular rooms for installing smart lighting inside the home, the research also revealed that the majority (63%) of respondents are keen on the idea of outdoor smart lighting.

As summer looms, homeowners are contemplating longer, warmer evenings of sitting outdoors and enjoying time in their gardens, and the idea of being able to change the colour of outdoor lights for illuminating flower beds with different colours, or when entertaining, is clearly appealing.

Bring the garden to life

Smart lighting can completely transform the appearance and atmosphere of any outdoor space – light colours, temperatures, effects and presets can be adapted wirelessly at the touch of a button to complement seasonal garden tones, or desired mood for any occasion. Using smart lighting outdoors makes it extremely easy to add artistic flair to the garden, or create the perfect ambience for hosting a barbecue with friends.

Improve security

Over a third (35%) of Lighting Direct’s respondents said that improving home security was their main interest when it comes to smart lighting, which is hardly surprising given the advanced level of functionality offered by smart bulbs. Because smart light bulbs can be controlled remotely via any location through a dedicated mobile app, it’s easy to set the lights to switch on and off at set times, creating the illusion that a property is occupied even when it isn’t.

Make life easier

Smart lighting is designed to fit around your lifestyle and individual needs, so it’s easy to create a completely bespoke design, without having to constantly fiddle about with lights and wiring outside.

With summer just around the corner, now is the time to get your garden ready. For advice on smart lighting, or to browse the wide selection of products available at Lighting Direct, visit https://www.lighting-direct.co.uk/led/smarthome.html
