Find out how can you incorporate Pantone’s 2016 colour trend into your home.
In December each year, Pantone announces the colour it has chosen for the upcoming year. It is typically a ‘symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.’ This year, for the first time ever, Pantone has chosen two colours; Rose quartz 9(a soft, baby pink) and Serenity (a pastel blue). These were chosen as an antidote to modern day stresses, demonstrating balance and symbolising wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace – perfect for use in home decor, especially in rooms where there is often a lot going on, such as the kitchen and/or living space.
Colour, pattern and texture trends are often easiest to incorporate in rooms such as the bedroom or living room, and they can be easily changed and adapted. New cushions, bedspread, curtains or a rug can instantly give the room a different look. The light, elegant tones of Rose Quartz and Serenity can be introduced easily with soft furnishings, or, if you’re feeling bolder, they will also lend themselves very well to larger items – a sofa for example, as neither will overpower the room. In fact, if your living space is in a light, airy room, such as an orangery or garden room, then these colours will maintain the light, breezy look and feel of the space.
When it comes to kitchens, keeping up with colour trends can be a little more challenging, as many elements can be labour intensive and expensive to change out. In addition, whilst these light buy hydrocodone 7.5 colours lend themselves more so than past Pantone colour picks to larger items, a whole work surface or run of cabinetry in a ‘trend’ colour could soon become a bit suffocating – and quickly go out of date. Many people choose instead to keep these elements neutral, using accessories such as ornaments, utensils, crockery or even small appliances. Coloured crockery on open shelving, for example, is a lovely way to subtly incorporate trend colours. If you have an open plan kitchen-living room area, accessories can be used in this way to ensure that colour schemes flow through the area effectively.
If you are feeling bold, a feature wall or new curtains will update the colour palette in a neutral room. In addition, with a bit of DIY, you could repaint chairs, stools, or even the inside of cabinets to give the room a few pops of colour. The latter is a very pleasing and fun way to add colour bursts to your kitchen.
We would expect Rose Quartz and Serenity to be included in a lot of people’s colour schemes when redecorating in 2016 – not least because both colours pair exceptionally well with the stand out colour of 2015 in kitchens; grey. As grey has both warm and cool tones, it suits both the warmer pink and the cool pale blue, and with blue symbolising calmness and cleanliness, Serenity is bound to be very popular for kitchens.
