International special: British made garden rooms abroad

Long associated with quality and excellent craftsmanship, British-made products are in high demand overseas and our garden rooms and orangery extensions are no exception. To date, our designs have been fitted into homes and buildings across the world – so how does our process differ when we are working on projects overseas?

There’s no doubt about it – our products have proven to be highly popular in countries all over the globe, from Turkey and Sri Lanka to the USA. With both a strong aesthetic appeal and the ability to transform your home, their balanced proportions and clean lines are a delight for the eye to see, whilst their exceptional durability and design promise an outstanding performance – and this has not gone unnoticed in other countries.

‘One thing we’ve noticed with all of our overseas clients is that they cannot find anything similar in their own countries,’ explains Sally Haynes, Westbury’s Operations Manager. ‘For example, we’ve recently shipped a roof lantern over to Canada and the client was excited to have such a unique feature in their home – there are no other companies who do what we do over there.’

All of our glazed extensions are made by our expert craftsmen in our Essex-based workshop, paying attention to every last detail to ensure a fine finish. For our international clients, there seems to be a particular charm in having something in their home that’s been ‘made in Britain’ and this is particularly true in countries like America who have a fondness for our culture and heritage. The classic aesthetics of a timber orangery or garden room are particularly appealing for those who love the traditional English Country style.

It seems that exceptional timber extensions are hard to come by in other markets, and clients living abroad really appreciate the idea of having something added to their properties that are styled a little differently, additionally the British seal of approval speaks volumes about the quality and performance of the product.

We approach all of our international projects with the same diligence and tailored service as our UK-based ones – accommodating for each unique situation and providing as much support as possible throughout the process.

Initially, we talk to our clients to explore their tastes and familiarise ourselves with their intended goals. Depending on the resources that they have to hand in their own country, we can either send someone from our team to survey their property or we can work with any photographs or architect drawings provided to us.

For UK-based projects, we tend to transport the different sections of a client’s bespoke garden room in stages, however with international projects we ship everything out in one batch, which we can arrange for you. This approach means that we can eliminate any unnecessary shipping costs for our clients while cutting down on our carbon footprint at the same time.

Our roof lanterns, garden rooms and orangeries are so well designed that it’s very straight forward for a team of local contractors to fit them, and our drawn plans are exceptionally clear to follow on their own but we can also send our own experts to provide an assisted fit if required. Whatever the best solution is, we’re always on hand to provide support during the building stage from our office in the UK.

This year, we provided a supply only service for a The Grand Hotel in Shri Lanka; a luxurious hotel that wanted to create a bright and airy Grand Spa and Mindfulness Studio with a swimming pool and gym. We created working drawings for a new bespoke roof lantern and glazed door sets which were all perfectly suited to the 127-year-old building. Being a large company, they were able to arrange their own build and shipping contractors, but we provided them with installation videos to ensure that nothing was lost in translation!

If you are living outside of the UK and would like to discuss a potential project, then please do not hesitate to contact us today to arrange an initial consultation with a member of the team. You can also download our brochure here
