A matching set: property transformed with Westbury garden room and bespoke doors and windows

A Westbury Garden Room client investing a glazed extension will often opt for new doors and windows from our sister company for the rest of their house to complete the look. Matching Westbury products achieve a certain standard where quality, classic detailing and longevity all play an essential role.

From the very beginning, the owners of this beautiful country home wanted to transform their property with the addition of a beautiful, glazed extension. Yet their transformation plans were not exclusive to just one area of the house. They also wanted matching timber doors and windows to help their whole home reach its full potential. With stylish casement windows supplied by our sister company Westbury Windows and Joinery and a new orangery extension, the results are nothing short of spectacular.

A design that accentuates the property’s beautiful garden

The property sits nestled within a beautifully tended, natural-looking garden that the clients adore. Because of this, our designers needed to create an extension that would add extra space while still preserving the garden.

We usually recommend our clients extend outwards; however, we designed and built a beautiful orangery on the left-hand side of the property, leading just off the main sitting room. The extension still offers masses of open, multi-functional space, but the garden’s carefully considered layout is not compromised. The orangery cleverly widens the outdoor patio’s length, which now feels like one expansive, linear area that the clients can separate into multiple outdoor seating zones.

An open-plan orangery perfect for outdoor living

For an extension to be well designed, careful consideration has to be given to the family’s needs to ensure that the new space enhances their day-to-day life. We added two sets of opening double French doors that would lead out onto a different part of the garden from the orangery. The clients can open both doors to bring the outside in during the summer or keep one entry closed depending on how they want the room to flow.

Inside, the enviably stylish and timeless glazed extension creates an open and light-filled family living space that has been separated into two distinct living zones. A large family-sized dining table sits at one end, and a seating area is arranged at the other, allowing the family to sit and look out over the quaint, red brick walled garden and beyond. A large entryway between the orangery and the main house makes the whole space feel open and airy while still separating the living spaces.

This orangery is all about symmetrical design and balanced proportions, with different aspects of the room harmonising with each other. This ‘perfectness’ is further accentuated by the precisely configured furniture. A magnificent rectangular roof lantern extends the ceiling height and brings sunlight in from above. An innovative lighting scheme is an integral feature that helps the open-plan room come alive in the evenings, illuminating the room’s different elements, and creating a definition between the zones.

Inside, the walls are finished with bright white paint which lets the beauty of the natural flooring speak for itself. Stepping into this light-filled home feels supremely calming, and the neutral colour palette works exceptionally well by contrasting against the property’s bright red brick exterior.

The effect of choosing Westbury Windows and Joinery

The garden is the most prominent element of this project, and from the beginning, we made choices that would ensure the whole back of the ground floor felt intricately woven with the outside elements. With such a high proportion of glazed aspects, the views looking out over the garden take centre stage as the main focal point and, needless to say, steal the show.

Because the clients upgraded their doors and windows to bespoke products from Westbury Windows and Joinery, the designers had a unique opportunity to create a sense of flow that continued beyond the ground floor. The classic casement windows and made-to-measure double French doors lend themselves to the house and make a classic yet stylish family home. Every room in the house feels distinctive and flows together as a whole, with the doors and windows on both floors, all working together to create one uniform, continuous look. Everything feels seamless, and the rooms merge into each other effortlessly throughout the property.

Why are Westbury doors and windows so special?

Our sister brand, Westbury Windows and Joinery, was established a few years after Westbury Garden Rooms. The name carries the same reputation for superior design, exceptional quality, and outstanding customer service. In 2012, we appointed window industry guru John Mumford as a co-director, who was the driving force behind the advancement of our unique designs. Our latest product ranges result from years’ worth of research, focusing on testing the latest manufacturing technologies and sustainable materials.

This project is a perfect example of how the details and finishing touches make all the difference, with flash joints, sharp edges, and traditional mouldings. You can only achieve the decorative detailing with conventional timber joinery, which creates an exceptionally classic and elegant feel in every room and isn’t something you regularly see in a typical home.

Our joinery specialists never take shortcuts, so the engineered timber goes through many stages in our workshop. They use both advanced machinery and hand-finished techniques to achieve a bespoke finish. The high-performance timber doors and windows are all supplied fully factory hung in their frames, complete with all hinges, glazing and ironmongery.

Just like our garden rooms in orangeries, our doors and windows don’t compromise on technical performance aesthetics or longevity, and we have the test results to prove it.
