May 2018 is a special date here at Westbury because it marks our 30th anniversary!
This is a pretty special achievement given that over the years we have seen many of our competitors come and go, and yet here we are still standing strong, with our sights firmly set on a path of onward and upward as demand for our brand is currently outstripping supply.
The design choice
Over the last 30 years Westbury has become renowned across the industry for architectural-led designs and attention to detail. Synonymous with quality and luxury using the most advanced market technologies, we’ve risen to the top of the industry and continue to set the pace in the design, planning and manufacture of timber garden rooms, conservatories, orangeries, kitchen additions and pool-houses.
Going from strength-to-strength
We are a Silver-accredited Investor in People, currently employing 65 permanent staff, a number which is set to increase rapidly as a result of our ambitious growth plans. In 2016 we added a London office to our portfolio in Lambeth Walk, in 2017 we continued our rolling investment plan by investing more than £300k in new machinery, new vehicles and software to ensure all aspects of the company benefit from cutting-edge technology, and 2018 will see more investment in staff, new premises and digital capabilities.
What sets Westbury apart?
Here at Westbury we pride ourselves on creating the highest quality product and finish for our customers, using a manufacturing process that combines the latest modern technologies with traditional craftsmanship, hand-finishing every product with an unrivalled attention to detail. We have achieved this over the last 30 years by investing in and utilising state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies to enhance and refine our products. We stand rigidly behind the motto “We manufacture to a standard – not a budget.”
This ethos has helped to cement our position at the top of the market. Our newly appointed Managing Director, James Upton, who has been with the company for more than 20 years, climbing the ranks from an apprentice technician to become Architectural Director and now MD, believes that while replica products and brands may resemble a Westbury Garden Room, they consistently fall down across a range of classic architectural standards. “We find that Westbury clients can identify these principle differences, which is why Westbury is consistently the only real choice open to those with a discerning eye for classical design”.
Where did it all go so right?
Westbury Garden Rooms is a family business and was founded by Jonathan Hey. Jonathan started out as a self-taught builder renovating houses in the 1980s, but the idea to specialise in garden rooms only emerged on the back of a very personal project, when he built his wheelchair-bound mother a conservatory so that she could still enjoy the beauty of her garden all-year round from within the confines of a comfortable and relaxing living space. The project was a complete success and won considerable admiration from all who saw it, sparking the idea that this was a great business concept to pursue.
30 years on and we are taking great strides in our growth, achieving a 70% increase in annual turnover in the past 5 years alone, and yet Westbury continues to retain the small and welcoming family feel that so many of our clients warm to and find invaluable during their build.
Orangeries are not the only fruit
At Westbury Garden Rooms we deliver innovative, high quality architectural solutions that transform ordinary houses into extraordinary homes all over the UK and overseas, we also specialise in windows and doors through sister brand, Westbury Windows and Joinery. Westbury Windows and Joinery has been in the market for 26 years but also shares in the success of the Westbury name for outstanding design, superior quality and ease of maintenance.
With interest in both brands strong, our future looks bright since we have become the go-to luxury brand name in garden rooms and joinery. Indeed, the Westbury name is hot property among estate agents, it being a well-known fact that “Westbury products sell houses”. The momentum is also gathering pace among property developers who are increasingly incorporating our products into their luxury houses as a key selling point.
Celebrating in style
In keeping with the Pearl Anniversary theme, Westbury intends to hold an Oyster Day for staff, teaming up with local supplier, Maldon Oysters and will be creating our very own commemorative plant, the ‘Westbury Pearl’, which will be given as a gift to our future Garden Room customers as the finishing touch to a job well done. So all that remains to say is, Happy 30th Birthday Westbury!
